Snapper on the bus
Boarding a bus with Snapper is a whole lot faster than paying with cash. Just tag on when you board, and tag off again at the end of your trip. Snapper has been making bus travel in Wellington a breeze since 2008, making thousands of people’s daily travel quicker and easier. Here is how.
Tag on, tag off
Snapper works out the right fare for your trip, so you don't have to. As long as you tag on at the start of your trip, and tag off at the end, Snapper makes sure you get charged the right amount, every time.
When you travel with a Snapper, you can use either the money loaded onto your Snapper or a travel pass that you have pre-purchased and loaded onto your Snapper.
Snapper a mate
You can Snapper two or more bus fares on one Snapper card, when you are paying with money loaded onto your Snapper. It's easy. If you are travelling with a friend or family member who doesn't have a Snapper - before you tag on just tell the driver that you want to Snapper another passenger as well. A discount is calculated for both fares when you tag off.
PLEASE NOTE:
- You can Snapper up to 5 people of each fare type on the same trip.
- Only money loaded on your Snapper can be used to Snapper a mate i.e. a travel pass and money cannot be used at the same time. If you have a travel pass loaded on your Snapper we recommend that your mate uses their own Snapper if they are taking the bus a few times.
How it works
Step 1 - make sure you have topped up your Snapper or have a valid travel pass loaded on to your Snapper.
Step 2 - as you get on the bus, tag on by holding your Snapper to the Snapper reader by the door. Place your Snapper on the Snapper symbol on the Snapper reader and hold it there until you see the green circle and hear the beep.
Step 3 - as you get off the bus tag off in just the same way. You can tag off at the front or the back of the bus.
Tagging on and off is important - it allows Snapper to record where you get on and off, work out the correct fare for your journey, and automatically apply your Snapper discount see the Snapper Terms of use for more information or check out Why do I need to tag off?
Note: Don't wave or "swipe" your Snapper. The reader needs time to be able to "talk" to your Snapper in order to work. Hold your Snapper to the reader and keep it still until you see the green circle. The tagging on process takes less than a second, so you won't be there long!
