Buying stuff in retailers
Using your Snapper to pay for everyday items couldn't be easier.
- Look for a store displaying the "Snapper it" sticker in the window.

- Find your purchase, and when it comes time to pay, just ask to pay by Snapper.
- The Snapper reader will light up with the amount you need to pay.
- Hold your Snapper to the Snapper reader.
- The Snapper reader will sound a “beep”, flash a blue light, and your new balance will be displayed on screen to confirm your transaction has been completed.
- That's it... you’re done! No PIN, no receipt. It's just the fastest way to pay.
Note: Don't wave or "swipe" your Snapper. The reader needs time to be able to "talk" to your Snapper in order to work. Hold your Snapper to the reader and keep it still until the transaction is complete. The Snapper process takes less than a second, so you won't be there long! Top up at retailers
There are hundreds of Snapper retailers and they're easy to spot with "Snapper it" window stickers and often a sign outside the store. Below is our retailer map to find your nearest Snapper retailer, or you can check our list of Snapper retailers.To top up, simply ask to top up your Snapper and pay by cash or EFTPOS to transfer the funds on to your Snapper. You can also just ask to check your balance, which takes only a couple of seconds and is a great way to keep track of how much you have left.
Snapper agents can check your balance, top up your Snapper and some can even apply a travel pass to your Snapper.
Please note that there is a 25c fee for topping up at a retailer. If you ask for a $20 top-up, then $19.75 will be added to your card. This fee covers the cost of the retailer providing the service and applicable bank charges.
