The classic card fits into your wallet just like any other card. Unlike cash or other cards, though, you don’t have to take it out of your wallet to use it. Just hold your wallet against the Snapper reader, and because it uses Radio Frequency technology, the reader will detect your Snapper through the cover of your wallet. Cool, right?
You can’t go far wrong with the Snapper Red. It fits in your wallet or purse and is great for adults and students, alike.
If you’re at secondary school (Year 9 to Year 13) and entitled to a child travel concession fare on public transport, get a travel concession applied to your Snapper Red by 28 February, and you’ll automatically get the child-fare discount.
There are two ways you can get a Wellington school concession applied or renewed on your Snapper:
Online – Please send us an email using your schools email address and include the following: first and last name; your 16-digit Snapper ID number; date of birth; and a scan of your 2016 school ID or proof of enrolment for the 2016 year.
In person – Please drop into a Snapper Service Centre and bring the following: your Snapper; your contact email address (this is important as we may need to contact you about your travel concession); and your 2016 school ID or proof of enrolment for the 2016 year.
The Snapper Green is the perfect Snapper for primary and intermediate school children (Year 1 to Year 8) in Wellington. It already has a travel concession applied which entitles the user to child-fare discounts on public transport.
Schools can choose to have Snapper built into their school IDs so there’s one less thing to worry about.
Check the list below to see if your school is signed up already, or get in touch if you’d like your school to add Snapper to your school ID card.

“Combo” or multi purpose cards are the result of Snapper teaming up with some really cool companies and schools to transform their functional passes or ID’s into Snapper cards.
The Snapper functionality of these cards behaves just like a Snapper Red enabling you to top up and use your Snapper to get you to where you need to be. If you plan to use one of these combo cards with a child concession you will need to get this added to the card separately.
