Once you’ve downloaded and set up the Snapper Mobile app on your NFC Android smartphone, topping up or buying a travel pass is secure, fast and easy. Here’s how you do it:
Hold your Snapper card to the back of your phone Place your card on the NFC spot (usually near the top or middle back of your phone). The app will scan your Snapper card. Some phone cases can interfere with the NFC reader and may need to be removed in order for your Snapper card to be successfully scanned.
Choose how much credit to add You’ll see a dial and a number showing a top-up amount.
Use the dial to scroll and pick your amount, or
Tap the amount shown to type in a different value. Once you’re happy with the amount, tap “Confirm top-up.”
Enter your payment details On the next screen, type in your credit or debit card info. We accept VISA and MasterCard.
Save your card for next time (optional) You’ll be given the option to save your payment info. You’ll be asked to set a 4-digit PIN to keep your details safe.
Scan your Snapper card again After your payment goes through, follow the app instructions to complete the top-up. Be sure to collect your credit. To do this, hold your Snapper card to the back of your phone again to load the credit onto your card.
Tap “Buy a pass” on your screen Once your card is read, you’ll see a menu at the bottom of your screen. Tap the option that says “Buy a pass”.
Choose the kind of pass you need You’ll see options for Rail, Bus, or Day Pass. Choose the one that fits your travel plans:
Rail Pass Tap “Rail”. Then, enter the names of the stations you’ll be travelling between. The app will show you a pass that covers those zones of your selected train stations. You can tap “Show more” to read details about the pass, or tap “Buy now” to continue.
Bus or Day Pass Tap either “Bus” or “Day Pass”, then choose from the list of available passes. Tap “Show more” to learn more about the pass or “Buy now” to continue.
Enter your payment details Type in your credit or debit card info. We accept VISA and MasterCard only.
Save your card details (optional) You can choose to save your payment info for next time. You’ll be asked to set a 4-digit PIN to keep your details safe.
Hold your Snapper card to your phone again After your payment is confirmed, the app will tell you to scan your Snapper card again. This loads the new pass onto your card.
When you save a credit card on the Snapper mobile app, a $1 hold will be placed on your credit card. The hold is to validate the credit card and will be reversed within a week.
When topping up your Snapper card via the app, a 1.5% card processing fee will be deducted by the payment provider. The card processing fee will be included in the transaction amount, but it will not be added to your balance.
The Snapper Android app is compatible with Android NFC Smartphones. Older Snapper cards (without a + in the top right corner) or Snapper Sprats may not work with this app. If you experience problems, please get in touch, and we will swap out your old Snapper for a new one.
