Accessible concessions

50% discount for people with disabilities

Metlink offer an Accessible discount fare which enables Total Mobility cardholders and Blind Foundation members with Snapper cards to receive a 50% discount off adult Snapper fares.

In order to receive the discount fare when you pay with Snapper, an Accessible concession needs to be applied to your Snapper card. Please see below how to do this.

The Accessible concession is available on all Metlink* buses except:

  •  Metlink After Midnight buses (N1; N2; N22; N3; N4; N5; N6; N66; N8; N88)

*Please note this concession will work on Metlink buses only. It is not available on independent commercial services. For fares and discounts on these services you will need to contact your service provider.

Carers travel free

If you require assistance for your travel, a carer can come with you and travel for free. You will need to show the Metlink driver your Total Mobillity Card or Blind Foundation ID card on request.

Total Mobility card users

Your Total Mobility card is already a Snapper card so you can use this card to tag on and off the bus just like a normal Snapper card. From 15th July 2018 all Wellington Total Mobility cards will be loaded with the accessible concession. This means there is no need to apply for a concession. Check out how to use your Snapper card to make sure you are good to get on the bus.

Visit the Metlink website to find out if you qualify for a Total Mobility card.

If you have any questions or need help in applying for your Total Mobility card call Metlink on 0800 801 700.

Members of the Blind Foundation

If you are Blind Foundation member you will need to buy a Snapper card and then apply to have an Accessible concession loaded onto it.

As a member of the Blind Foundation there are several ways you can apply for the Accessible concession:

  • Call the Snapper helpdesk on 0800 555 345.
  • Visit a Snapper Service Centre (Wellington City, Upper Hutt).
  • Email with your Snapper card number and a copy of your Blind Foundation ID card.

When applying please bring or attach a copy of your Blind Foundation ID card and your Snapper card number.

Please contact the Blind Foundation if you want to become a member.

Using Accessible concessions on the bus

Make sure you have your Total Mobility card/Blind Foundation card with you.

Tag on and off the Snapper card readers by holding your Snapper card to the raised fish symbol on the Snapper card reader.  To indicate the discount fare has been applied the readers will beep twice and the Snapper card reader will display the words “Access”. Check out how to tag on and off the Snapper readers.

When travelling using an Accessible concession you will need to keep your Total Mobility card/Blind Foundation card with you and show it the Metlink driver on request.
